Editor

Jennifer O'Brien is editor for MediaConnect Australia.

After graduating from Carleton University (with a Bachelor of Honours Degree in Journalism and English), O'Brien ventured off to Europe for a holiday and eventually landed an intern gig at the Ulster Star in Lisburn, Northern Ireland. After returning to Canada, she clinched her first full-time journalism job writing for the occupational health and safety and environment beats.

After covering the OH&S beat for close to two years, O'Brien jumped into tech reporting and landed a journalist job at Toronto-based Computer Dealer News (CDN). For five years, O'Brien covered the reseller beat, writing news and features, travelled around Canada and the US on press junkets, and worked her way up to become special sections editor and into the assistant editor role.

Looking for change and adventure, in 2003 O'Brien packed in the assistant editor post at CDN and set off for Australia. Her initial plans were for a one-year working holiday. After knocking on ARN's door (given her Canadian channel experience), the reseller magazine hired O'Brien as a journalist on a contract position. She was then offered the Features Editor post and given sponsorship and eventually residency.

After four years at the company, O'Brien decided to take the next step in her career development and was offered the editor post at MediaConnect. Currently, O'Brien works with a team of journalists and is responsible for the editorial and database content related to the technology media.

Along with her full-time gigs, O'Brien has also experience writing for local newspapers (The Ottawa Citizen and Ottawa Sun), and magazines (Women in Environment) and various newsletters.
